Getting into the depths of this stuff really opens your eyes that the only way you can end something that people hold with such zeal is to destroy it outright, because it doesn't stop growing or cease aggression. At best it goes into a hibernation, which it may be doing now at least in America, and if it is now is the best chance to put it down.
Clearly it's something that progressives realized at some point decades ago, rather their target was Christianity over conservatives. They way Christianity was (incorrectly) mocked and characterized for being fanatical crazies that lack empathy and an understanding of the world is more or less exactly how progressives and leftists behave now.
I could be wrong, but it is difficult in the sense that I don't see the Right with a current comparative vision besides "stop the insanity" which is compelling but not a whole world vision. I think this is why so many gravitate towards WW2 as NatSocs/Fascism had a totalizing vision at least.
I remain generally concerned about Leftism as a wholly popular phenomenon that the total individual summation of want breeds it and even when it is correct the right does exist to just reign in the worst aspects after the fact. Can a true RW vision emerge that is fundamentally popular can we break the dichotomy? I'm optimistic that we can breakthrough into something better and wholly different (or is a vaguely RW liberal gov the real end of history?).
Going to read more about the Liberal Revolutions in Europe I guess and see what I can find. Thanks again NMV
I don't know if this is trite or something obvious, but it occurred to me that, when religious experience gets thrust into the political realm in moments of particularly heated furvor, I suppose especially in moments where a religious movement gets challenged existentially, what you get are moments of explicit omnicide (I refuse to use the word genocide because it is a poc term by spirit and nature) where opportunity for a more contained conflict would otherwise take place ie war between similar cultures and not between, say, the Near Eastern Islamic World and the West. I was thinking wars of religion culminating in 30 year war specifically, and the Albigensian Crusade. What I'm trying to say is that I was thinking that this would seem to connect to the kind of reckless human abandon that you would see with the clashing of two religious-political ideologies in WWII, even taking out of the equation Eastern Front if it could be argued that Russia is a culture quite alienated from the West. Sorry this is so scattered typing on a phone.
Interesting the most ardent inheritors of the true believer world view, those who actually have a Weltanschauung, these days are the “extremely online” types. Tradcaths who move halfway across the country so they can go to the *correct* liturgy. Leftists who watch their loved ones bleed out on the sidewalk and don’t call the police because the thug with a knife is the *real victim* of the system. MGTOW misandrists who will be hitting 35 this year never having felt the touch of a woman because they truly took to heart that one episode of This Week In Stupid 12 years ago.
Those who live behind their computer screens have more in common with the Freikorps rifleman in the street than they do with the GOP insider who treats his politics like most Christians treat their faith; something we do on Sundays, but “I’ve got a *real* life to get back to afterwards!”
